Hello! I convinced Emma to give Antiquity a try. I unveiled the box and she paused and said “Bring it on.”
Quick confession. I have pledged to play this game 100 times. With no deadline so it’s not that impossible. That said, you may want to get yourself ready for this game to be thrust upon you.
Back to last nights session:
We played until we hit a (2 hour) time limit although Emma basically had hit a downward grave spiral so awarded me the ‘win’. I was feeling a little cheeky and took Santa Maria on the second turn (I wanted to take San Giorgio but I thought that might be mean [although Emma is bloodthirsty, I’m sure she wouldn’t have minded if I had just gone for it {also you pretty much have to San Giorgio anyway if you take Maria}]) because I wanted all the speical powers. Emma took Christofori because she wanted the Storage. As time went on and the pollution and graves kept piling on, she confessed she felt like she was playing to stay alive as opposed to playing to win. I apologized for playing full difficulty on her, she said she’s glad we did (“It might have been easier, but this was tense. I liked it!”) She agreed to play again
I certainly saw how important starting terrain is, holy cow. There was a nice chain of lakes I used to jump up and harass Emma in her zone of control early. Had I just taken San Giorgio and focused on it, I think I would have won. There was also a point where I could have SERIOUSLY hindered her growth by placing a city right where she wanted to—but lucky for her she had turn order priority
Anyway, we both pretty much got sucked into the graves/pollution trap. Emma eventually built a dump, we both built one fountain each but we probably really needed more… Excited to play again.
