Wednesday night proved to be an epic gathering of many Ludocrats (the night was so popular, we turned people away). Six of us had some bean dip, chutney and wine and after a ceremonious tripping over the box by Annie we set out for some civilization building.
Jen and Annie quickly reviewed the rules and managed a very cute tie for third place. Jake and I tied for first with 56 each, but as Jake had bled his treasury dry I was to end victorious through the tie break.
Second game saw Brekke overbuild his military to drop into the 30’s for his score and Nate walked away with a well balanced win. I gave him the scoresheet so he could take it to his date at Sally’s. Yes, he went to Sally’s instead of staying for THE RESISTANCE.
Taking his place would be Jacob who, apparently, thinks I’m a dirty liar and much of our game play of The Resistance was me pleading, ever pleading with him to believe I was resistance.
We played six total games of this and some of the memorable moments were:
Brekke winning every game. He is a brilliant Spy and had an amazing slow play of a team selection that had me completely fooled. When Jen and he revealed at the end we were all shocked. Excellent play by both.
Annie choosing to send four other people on a mission… Oh, so you are obviously not Resistance because you would of course send yourself on that mission. Busted.
Jacob high fiving two Spies saying “We’ve got them! Joe and Jake are the spies!” I am crying in the corner, exasperated.
Me giving very convincing arguements for a good team then… voting against it? To which Jake said “You’ve had a very dubious voting record… you are a spy.” And yes, I was. I am a terrible spy. However, I was the leader when it was 2-2 and I selected the four Resistance members to go on the mission which caused them to balk and almost decide to replace Jake with my Spy-Counter part Annie until they actually thought about it and went on to win.
All in all it was a loud, emotionally draining, amazing good time. We played until after midnight and I have spent the past twelve hours thinking about my play. When I am resistance I am extremely talkative, exasperatable and controlling—and then I become a spy and I am more timid and not nearly as overbearing. I need to even it out if I ever stand a chance of winning a match as a spy (I lost both times). Time to take notes from Brekke.
Playing with six was a perfect learning experience, not too easy for either team, in fact I think Spies won 2 times, Resistance won 4. Which means I was only on 2 winning teams… I suck.
Anyway, hopefully some of the other members will chime in with their thoughts/memories from last night. This game will see a helluva lot of playing time, I predict.
