Olympic(s and) Games
Hi Friends.  Can you read this through your tears over the ignominious performance by the US Men’s gymnastics team?  (I’m speaking to you, Jeff.)  If you can, please see below for fun Crokinole and Summoner Wars dressage reportage! Jeff and I played another best of 3 set match of Crokinole with our modified rules.  This picture was taken after I lost the first set 6-3.  After a...

SUMMONER WARS
The other day I was thinking about my 2-player game collection… Abstracts, Euros that scale down well, Euros that don’t scale down too well, Longer war type games… I felt like I was missing a really killer and short two player game.  Something with theme.  Obviously the fact that I thought my already too big collection was missing something means something is not right with me. ...

French Countryside and Nordic Track
Hello and well met Ludogeeks.  I am happy to report some fine gaming went on in my humble neck of the woods!  (Also, don’t tell Jeff but I have quite a large package of new games coming…  eh heh… help me). I played a game of Burgundy with Jeff (since I made him dinner he agreed to play) and two games of Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries with Erik.  Perhaps watching all this...

Getting Excited for GenCon
So Annie and My tickets came for GenCon last week.  Needless to say, (although I WILL say it) we are both very excited and have no idea what to expect.  Thankfully, the denizens of BoardGameGeek have provided an exhaustive Preview List of games that will be available for demo/purchase.  I thought it would be fun to highlight some of the things I am excited for! Follow the jump to see what whacky...

Crokinole-Tennis Championships
Since we are a Roger Federer household, Tennis is often on our minds.  That may explain why I had a fever dream about how to incorporate a Tennis scoring mechanism with our Crokinole engagements. The idea is this: Instead of scoring boards 2 for a win and 1 for a tie, we would score 1 for a win and 0 for a tie.  Also, we would be limited to eight pucks per board.  Serve rotates, first one to six...

The Crokinole Crown is Mine! For Now
Jeff and I sometimes like to play “recluse” on Friday evenings.  Tonight was one of those evenings. In the course of our scorning the rest of humanity, we played three matches of Crokinole and contrary to both of our expectations I won two out of three! First Match, Jeff serves first game: Joe - Jeff - Joe - Joe: A late break gives me the win!  I also think it was the third game...

Minute by Minute Crokinole Stats
Subtitle: you can skip this one. Yesterday saw 15 matches played with 2 new players.  Plus, I dealt with my first >2 match fed through my own ELO computer.  (Nerds, hear me:  To wit, Annie & Jeff beat Me in a 2v1 match up.  I basically treated it like a ‘half match’ for them so they shared doubles, shared boards and only got half of what their ELO increase would have been had...
