Fascinating Game...
No modern board gamer can call themselves a true fan of the hobby without playing the game Twilight Struggle, the game that usurped the highest rated board game spot from the paragons of cardboard sport Puerto Rico and Agricola. However, convincing someone to sit for a 2+ hour two-player-only game about the Cold War might not be the easiest task—unless you’re lucky like me and have...

Coming Full Circle
Picture it: Roseville, 2011.  A young lad and his former boss are eating off of square plates and enjoying happy hour priced beers after harassing people nice enough to be city delegates to their party’s convention.  Encouraged by the beer and the political meddling, the lad decides the explore the board game shop located just below the restaurant.  He sees a wall of games… some...

Taluva? I hardly know her!
And for all of those who’ve managed to make it past the post title: Welcome to this Saturday edition of Ludocracy Now!  Earlier in the week I had placed a clarion call for Friday night gamers.  Thankfully, Christina and Jake are equally disposed to a weekend game night as yours truly.  They came over for a night of binge gaming and moderate(?) drinking.  “Why am I the only one double...

This is just to say
I bought an out of print five hour board game about German elections. It was delicious. So deep, and so bold.

Some Hex Basics
Hex is an awesome abstract strategy board game.  It’s rules are simple: on your turn, place a stone of your color any where on the board.  First player to connect her two sides by an unbroken chain of stones wins.  No draws are possible! So very simple, so very deep.  First time players will get crushed if they don’t know a few basics—and when people get crushed they generally...

What the hex?
So I have played about ~40 games against the beginner level of Hexy and lost every time.  I feel like I am at least getting closer but this damn book has somehow failed to import all of its knowledge into my brain!  Useful stuff in there, though, I’m sure. And yes, I am playing Hex at 10pm on a Saturday against a computer.  I’m owning it.
