Through the Ages: Some more Pics.
With a group of three great girls coming over on Sunday, I want to make sure I have the perfect set of games picked out… However, I am having a tough time deciding between having an afternoon of one epic game, or playing two or three lighter games.  Before I decide that, here are a few screen shots of my successes in Qrank tonight: And of course I apologize for the free advertising...

Oh GOD: Three New Games
Hello Tumblr!  So, I had an itch for some new games since it had been, what, all of three weeks since I lost got a shipment… Hooboy.  Anyway: Huzzah!  Three games!  Through the Ages is ranked fourth, I think, on board game geek and I just love civilization building card games As well as games that allow me to play as either one of my two favorite colors (Gray and Orange). That board...

Wars of the Roses Photo Set
So I had a nice post about Wars of the Roses set to go… then my internet crapped out and tumblr wouldn’t let me save a draft!  Bad tumblr. However, I will post some of the pictures I took.  I’m too hungry to recreate my glorious prose.  Sorry, Audience!  Some day I won’t treat you like sludge. Why were the bits so dusty and gross?  I don’t know.  I took a rag and...

Manouevre Friday
Annie and I set out on our 56 game tournament of Manoeuvre tonight. And although we got off to a rough start… (A little teeth got the bottle open.)  We were able to play four games and enjoy a few Gin Bootlegs We quickly moved inside as both Annie and I were drenched with sweat considering the Humidity of 100% (or so it felt.)  I chose the two armies for our first game:  Austrian...

Unhappy King Charles! (Happy Me!)
So, really a banner day for Myself as I played 4.5 hours straight of Unhappy King Charles! and managed to keep enough wits about me to win the game. I was almost reticent to play the Parliamentarians as their strategy seemed more nuanced and just reading the rules for the New Model Army card play were overwhelming.  However, we flipped a political control marker and I wound up as the Parliament...

Quick AAR from the FFGEC
Hello faithful readers.  I know you are dying to know how my foray into anonymous gaming went.  And I am here to happily report that my new friend Brian and I were the two most normal people playing games at the event center. To start, it’s always nice meeting someone who is in the same predicament as you:  Went on a Card Driven Game buying binge (we both have the same games:...

Happy Birthday Mom!
And for Momma A’s present, I’m giving you a quick Ludocracy Now! update. So, there’s a board game whose iOS equivalent has been published to much hubbub over at Boardgame geek.  I speak, of course, of Ascension: Chronicles of the Godslayer, which sounds like some sort of Dungeons and Dragons thing.  The game is a little like Dominion, in that each side starts with the same basic...

Washington's Weariness
Tonight saw an effort to bring out Washington’s War and attempt a play.  I was excited for this game: it won the 2010 Boardgame Geek award for best War Game and has a very high rating on the site.  It also is listed as playable in 90 minutes and with a low complexity rating.  I thought it would be perfect for a Tuesday night gaming session with Tim… instead we found ourselves packing...

Playing Hannibal
Hello Ludocrats.  It has been a month since I’ve been tracking visits to this site and although only two people have visited this site in the last two days (myself and someone from the Czech Republic) I have had 101 visitors come and mock my obsession with cats and boardgames.  Fun! Anyway, Annie and a sunburt I ventured further into our 2 player wargame training by busting out Hannibal:...

Hannibal: Rome v. Carthage
Or, Hannibal: Puss v. Boots.  So, below is a video that I took because I thought my cats were about to go after each other (or rather, I thought Boots was going to terrorize Puss) and I thought it would be a good allegory for Rome v. Carthage.  Of course, instead of fighting, cuteness ensued and I also learned that you should turn the iPod sideways when you want to take video… crud. ...

Help me play my games!
So, I’ve linked to my glut of games a few times put I thought I’d do a little user interaction to see what my readers find most appealing.  The categories below might not be the best and you might not even know what any of these games are.  Who cares!  Vote anyway.  I’d like to play every game in my collection at least once before the year is over (a daunting task, to be sure)...

“It is never a bad idea to have some 11x11 hex boards lying around.”
– A double negative quote from me as I pack up for the July 4th weekend!  I doubt that any of the Patriotic games I bring along (Washington’s War and Founding Fathers… and maybe 1960) will get played.  In fact, I hope they don’t because rain will probably be the only occasion in...

Shutdown Blues, or: Birds win!!
There is no better way to celebrate receiving a layoff notice in the mail than to sit down with three likeminded boardgame geeks and play three hours of Dominant Species. Jake, Austin, Austin’s friend Preston and The Royal We all put on our best brain burning caps and hashed out the rules to the game.  We then drew animals and I received Mammals, Jake got Arachnids, Austin had Birds and...
